Development

Sheffield University Netball Club Development squad currently have two netball teams in the Sheffield Intra-Mural leagues where we play other societies from the University of Sheffield. These happen between 3-5 for the 5th team and 5-7 for the 4th team in the elite league every Tuesday starting from October the 18th.

In previous years we have been very successful in these leagues, either winning or being runners-up in their individual leagues but also advancing to the finals of the intra-mural championships. For the year 2010/2011 the development 4th were the overall Intra-mural champions.

The Development squad is run on every Monday evening from 8-9 in Goodwin Sports Centre (Northumberland Road). These training sessions are taken by members of SUNC, Bushy and Bolt. Weekly fitness sessions take place around University campus.

Training sessions are open to anyone who wants to play netball to a good standard but not take it too seriously and have fun at the same time. Even if you are not chosen to play for the 4th or 5th team you are more than welcome to still come to the training sessions to improve on fitness and to catch up with all the SUNC members.

This year we are aiming to get a lot of friendly games against other universities development squads as well as take part in the University of Nottingham development tournament. This will hope to keep SUNC on top form and push to get a development squad in the finals of the intra-mural championships every year.

Membership to the Development squads costs £50 to join which covers training fees and umpires for matches. Kit can be bought from kitlocker.com or gilbert for the dresses which costs around £40.
